Fly Fishing Charters for Western North Carolina

Posted by on April 10, 2014

We have been extremely busy so far this spring at Hookers Fly Shop and Guide Service.  We have been taking new and longtime clients almost daily to many of the great fly fishing areas here in Western North Carolina.  We have guided a lot of fly fishing float trips down the Tuckasegee Delayed Harvest as well as dozens of wade trips on the Tuckasegee, Nantahala, Cherokee Reservation, Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Notable hatches over the past couple of weeks have been Quill Gordons, Black Caddis, Blue Wing Olives, Red Quills, Sulphurs and Midges.  Check out our hatch chart for the monthly hatches for our region.

22″ Brown on a Tuckasegee Float Trip with Hookers Fly Shop guide Clint Holcomb

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of guiding new client Paul B. from Ohio.  Paul put some nice fish in the net and just missed the Tuck Grand Slam.  Hot flies were #10 Coffee/Black Marvin Stoneflies and #14 Orange Thread Frenchies and #14 Red Soft Hackles.  Aside from the wind it was a fantastic afternoon on the water.

Today, Clint and I were on the water with some new clients.  He did a float trip with Joe J. from Georgia and I did a wade trip on the Nantahala DH and Hatchery Supported waters.  Clint reports an absolutely fantastic day on the water with well over 40 fish put in the boat including the 22″ beast of a brown pictured earlier.  Hot flies were #16 Pink BH Pheasant Tails, #16 Surveyors and #8 Coffee/Black Marvin Stoneflies.  Most of the fish were pulled off the bottom and middle of the water column.   New client Mike H. put several nice fish in the net including a 16″ Rainbow and a couple of beautiful wild browns and wild rainbows.  Hot flies were #14 Black Caddis, #14 Orange Thread Frenchie and #8 Coffee/Black Marvin Stoneflies.
