Bill with a nice Brook Trout-Float Trip with Hookers Fly Shop 3-24-12
Busy weekend here at Hookers Fly Shop. Today, Tim and I both had trips out on the Tuckasegee River. Tim guided Cara F. on a half day wade and I guided David and Bill on a half day float trip. The threat of thunderstorms had us worried early in the morning but the skies quickly cleared and it turned out to be a beautiful day on the water.
Tim reports that his trip had success early in the morning with a dry dropper rig with an Elk Hair Caddis with a red midge dropper. Other hot flies included #8 Hot Head Marvins and Caddis Pupa. Bill and David had pretty good success with Marvins as well and also Olive and Black Wooly Buggers. Both David and Bill got the Tuck Grand Slam and Bill even landed several decent fish including the Brook trout pictured above. Throughout the day there was a decent Caddis hatch as well a decent Sulphur hatch.
