Fly Fishing Hazel Creek
Hookers Fly Shop and Guide Service offers both day trips and overnight trips to Hazel Creek. Hazel Creek is one of the most famous streams located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This stream is a tributary of the Little Tennessee River and flows out of the GSMNP and into Fontana Lake. This area offers some of the best fly fishing in the Smokies. It is also a fantastic place to hike and camp. You can start at Fontana Lake and hike all the way up to Clingmans Dome but most hikers usually start at Clingmans Dome and hike down.
We have several options to get to Hazel Creek. We can hike in, boat in or even paddle in. Hookers Fly Shop can help you customize a trip that will make memories to last a lifetime. Boating in from Fontana Marina is the quickest option.
Camping here is remote. There are not any motorized vehicles here except for the occasional park maintenance vehicles. On these trips we take care of everything. We use large garden carts to get all of our gear in there and we will set up camp while you explore the area. All meals are provided and campers can choose from guided or unguided options for fly fishing.
Our Back Country Trip leader, Jason Cole, has a degree in Outdoor Leadership and has experience leading small and large groups into backcountry settings. Our back country trips practice Leave No Trace camping. We are fully insured and registered to operate inside the GSMNP and Nantahala National Forest. Trips include three backcountry meals per day. All the necessary fishing equipment (i.e. rods, waders, boots, leaders, tippet and flies). Tents, sleeping bags and packs can be provided Hookers Fly Shop. You will need to bring toiletries, appropriate clothing for the outdoors and various weather conditions including proper rain gear, and any prescription or non-prescription medicines you may need. It is recommended that you talk to your Backcountry Trip Leader about proper gear/clothing, prior to your trip.
