Guided fly fishing on West Fork Pigeon River, NC. We offer 1/2 day, 3/4 day and full day wade trips to many areas near Waynesville. One of the areas we guide heavily is the West Fork of the Pigeon. Here you will find a two mile stretch of delayed harvest waters stocked with Rainbow, Brook and Brown trout. This area is stocked with 15,600 fish between Oct. and July. The catch and release season here runs from Oct. 1st to the first Saturday in June and is single hook artificial during this time.
Even though the section of river is stocked heavily there are still plenty of wild rainbow, brook and brown trout reproducing here. It is not uncommon to catch wild fish here all year long.
Outside of the West Fork DH section the state stocks several other stream including Jonathan Creek (15,500 fish), West Fork of the Pigeon Left Prong (3,525), Richland Creek (1,500), Cold Springs Creek (2,368), Pigeon River (3,685). All of these areas are in or just outside of Waynesville.
The Cataloochee Valley is also just a short drive outside of Waynesville. Here you will find one of the most beautiful areas in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Not only if the fishing fantastic here the wildlife viewing is spectacular. This is one of the best viewing areas for the Elk inside the park. It is not uncommon to see herds of several dozen Elk as you drive to your fishing locations. In the Cataloochee Valley you will find Palmer Creek, Cataloochee Creek, Caldwell Fork, Hurricane Creek and many more smaller streams.
